Beach in Tokyo

James Hart (a fellow Brit here in Japan) spotted this interesting story about making a beach in Shibuya.

Geekiness.

Cool. Looks like Tokyo Metro is introducing some Hi-Speed wireless internet connection hot-spots at various stations :)

I saw a sign for it saying it was coming soon at a particular spot near the C8 exit of Otemachi station (happens to be where I get off the train to go to work).

Fantastic, now I can check my email, read the news, etc, etc, while waiting for the train. Then again, maybe not.

Japan, Politics

More on the election.

Considering that the ‘Election’ doesn’t officially start until the end of this month, there’s already been a lot a sabre rattling by the various parties and factions.

Koizumi and his ‘new cool gang’ have started to purge out the old-boys network.

EDIT:
More election stuff.
DPJ go for the throat and try to unseat Koizumi.
LDP Rebels back down on forming seperate Party.

So Called Analysts

Have been reading this story about the partial flotation of the Chinese currency.

This caught my attention…

“The currencies in the basket depend on the amount of foreign trade we conduct. The US, eurozone, Japan and South Korea are our biggest trading partners now,” said People’s Bank of China governor Zhou Xiaochuan.

However, the announcement by Mr Zhou surprised some analysts for its omission of the Taiwan dollar.

Why the suprise? Surely, if China had included the Taiwanese Dollar, it would be practically admitting that Taiwan was not a ‘renegade province’, but a independant state.
