…. blah, blah, fill in the rest of the words for that Frank Sinatra song. ;)

After two and a half years (ish) of being in Japan, Yuko and I are heading back to the UK. Nutcases… maybe? Despite my whinging (see below ;) ), I’ve loved being in Japan and for many reasons would love to stay here.

To keep things simple, the reason why is:

  1. Yuko and I want kids but…
  2. My current job means I have to travel internationally quite a lot sometimes…
  3. But, I don’t want to be an absent father (like a lot of Japanese men seem to be)
  4. Due to my skill set (and piss-poor Japanese), getting a non-travelling job in Japan would be difficult, but easy in the UK (no offense to English teachers here in Japan, but I couldn’t be a English teacher. Relatively low pay, plus I’d be rubbish at it)
  5. Worried about state of Japan in 10 years from now (worried about UK too for that matter, but think Japan will find things worse when it comes to decreasing natural resources). New Zealand is theorectically good, but Yuko would probably divorce me if we ever went to live there (she’d go crazy with lack of shopping, and ‘alledged backward country, unconvenient feel’ of the place, or so they say).

So, it’s going to be a busy couple of months now. (Not helped by the fact that the collegues in Oz want me there for a week or so).
