Food, Japan, Peak Oil, Politics
Countdown continues
Preparations for the UK return still continue (for my own companies HR department seem to be taking things a little too easy for my liking….. again (they did the same thing last time, when I came over to Japan)).
So, at the moment, when not sorting things out for packing etc etc, Yuko and I seem to be going out meeting people. We went out on Tuesday night, and we are going out again tonight with a different bunch of people. Seems everyone is quicker to organise drinking events when you put a date on it that you have to do this stuff by.
On Saturday, we’ll be loading up Yuko’s folks car to bring over some stuff they are getting their hands on, such as the TV etc. We’ll then head off to their place to meet up with younger brother, older sister + niece, older brother + wife + nephew + niece, and Yuko’s folks. Thats when I get my chance to impress them all with my mastery of the Microwave/Oven/Gas Hob and cook them a Xmas dinner! Yes, you did read that right ![]()
Since we won’t be here for Xmas, we said we would do it now. This will be a first for Older Sis+Niece. It will be the last time I get to cook a roast too in Japan, as the folks-in-law are buying the Oven/Microwave off us.
Japan Education System
Seems that the Education System here in Japan is just as f**ked up as the one in the UK… with yet more news on the recent spate of bullying-induced suicides here.
It seems to be that the J-Govt is having real issues with admiting there is a problem here.
Mid-terms
Well, all I can say is good riddence to the guy. I had BBC News 24 going on my computer whilst working yesterday, and I did rather enjoy the spectacle.
Left overs
Christ, Australia is going to have some problems in a few years isn’t it.. I guess with the heat, it won’t matter that a lot of their homes aren’t properly insulated for winter. Mind you, seems that ours (in the UK) aren’t either (they certainly aren’t in Japan). This was quite in interesting story about how crap the current set of new build houses are, compared to a 500 Year old house!!
And finally, talking of housing, just when is the UK housing market going to complex. Some of the things being talked about here is just damn scary.
Here endeth todays rant
