Football, Japan, Mac / OS X, Sport, Technology and Computing

Other random thoughts for the evening

Soccer

Well, later tonight (tomorrow morning at 01:00 to be pedantic), Australia play Italy in the Football (Soccer) World Cup. Atmosphere in Melbourne should be electric. Yuko and I feel a little tired, so the plan to go down Federation Square has been put off. But, we’ll stay up for the game, and if Australia win, we’ll immediatly head outside to soak up some atmosphere!

That’s screwed up

You do have to wonder about the state of Japan at the moment. Mind you, I guess all countries have their problems. Aussie will have plenty of water problems in the future. Britain will disintegrate into a seething mess of racial disharmony! Aren’t I a cheerful chap ;)

Interesting, from a boring work point of view

Well, as far as my line of work is concerned, this was a VERY interesting story.

The cult of Mac

Looks like Yuko has given me permission to get a Mac. We’ll probably get it just before we leave Australia (that way, I can get the tax deducted). May have to get one of these bad boys with a 7200rpm HDD and 2Gb drive. So… anyone want to buy a 3 year old Compaq Laptop (40Gb, 1Gb RAM, UK spec)?

Food

Day off work, so into the Mountains!

Today and tomorrow, Yuko and myself are off work.

So, we headed off on a little Day Tour. We shot off into the Dandenong Ranges. First stop was a little picnic place, where the tour company supplied us with some bird seed to feed the local birdlife (which is all very exotic looking birds for people who grew up in the UK and Japan). We then headed off to Belgrave to hop onto a Puffing Billy train. That was quite fun.

For lunch, we headed off to Fergusson Winery. Considering the place was meant to have an award winning restaurant we were a little disappointed with the roast dinner that we had. I think another bit of proof that a good roast cannot be done in a restaurant, and it has to be made at home ;) The food we had at the restaurant at Rochford Wines was much better when we did the Yarra Valley Winery Tour last month. Anyway, it wasn’t bad, and we tasted a few wines (and brought 3 bottles, a nice little Chardonay, a Shiraz and a Fortified Shiraz, great!!!) before hopping onto the bus.

Last stop was Healesville Sanctuary, to get up pretty close to some more Aussie Wildlife.

General

Not politically correct… but pretty funny!

Ahhh. Football (Soccer) World Cup. Yet another occasion from the Brits to reminisce fondly about those good ‘ol days when were beating the Germans at something ;) ;)
Sample Spitfire Beer Picture

Not sure if these were really adverts done by Spitfire? Bloody funny though, if not P.C.

Nice beer too! Fancy a pint of it now.

[Political Correctness Disclaimer: I like the Germans really :) ]
