US solution to GW

You know the one… where they show how we (the human race) decided to combat Global Warming?

Well, it seems that some people in the US have been watching too much Futurrama and think we can solve the issue with fancy, convoluted technology… like gigantic reflective mirrors in space, or pumping reflective particles into the atmosphere!
This is just so stupid… since
1. If you end up blocking sunlight from the planet, wouldn’t it have the slight side-effect of killing off some plantation??
2. What about using Sun energy in renewables. We’re going to need renewables anyway because of Peak Oil.

Seems to me that this ‘solution’ does not address the core problem, which is burning fossil fuels.

We want our Tortillas

Talking of fossil fuels. Seems that the Cantarell field in Mexico is in serious decline… is this what’s awaits us with Ghawar in Saudi Arabia. Things aren’t so rosy for the Mexicans, and is this causing problems elsewhere in Mexico. It seems that US dependance on their cars means a surge in wanting Bio-fuels. So, all that corn that used to be eaten is now being used to produce Ethanol for Bio-fuel… resulting in higher food costs.
Biofuels alone are useless, unless there is a fundamental shift in how we use cars in the first place. We simply cannot expect to drive the current mileages we do know, and expect bio-fuels just to replace petrol and diesel. That’s just lunancy. Simply put, limited bio-fuels should only be used for essential transportation. The rest of us should get on our bloody bikes (mine has been ordered, and despite having a car, I plan on not using it that much… it’s very much a ‘treat’).

Great Website Finds

As you can see, I’ve found a great new site… with a forum to go with it. ‘Colonel Dick’ is a hero of mine, fantastic chap and used to enjoy watching him and his brothers on Scrapheap Challenge (the show that was remade in the US, and called Junkyard Wars). Basically, his family have gone green (it seems his wife was pretty green to start with). I must get around to trying to watch this programme, or read the book at least.
On the links section of that page, I followed up one of the links, and there I’ve found some great looking wood burners. Ahhh, I fancy some of those!

I suprise myself sometimes… 3 years ago, I would never be interested in things like woodburners.
