Mac / OS X, Technology and Computing

iPad

Popped into town today, and stopped off at the Apple Store (the new one in St. Davids 2 shopping centre in Cardiff). As expected, a fair old crowd around the iPad table with people playing around with the demo machines.

Had a quick play myself. However, unlike when I had a play with the iPod Touch/iPhone for the first time, there certainly wasn’t the the feeling of “Oh my God, I really want one of these now!”. Yes, nice device, kinda funky. But not a ‘must get’. The ‘locked down’ model for iPhones makes sense to me. However, for a laptop type computing device, it felt to restrictive. I guess I still want a good old fashioned MacBook instead.

Campness!

Yeah, it’s Eurovision Song Contest time… a time when Yuko and I sit in front of the TV with a bit of plonk and basically laugh at how shit the whole contest is.

First up, congratulations to “Kate Nash” for winning, for Germany ;)
I mean, what the hell was going on there!? Yes, we see other European countries singing in English all the time… but singing in a mockney-cockney accent?!?

Other honourable mentions go to Denmark for their Sting-alike effort, and for the “pitch-invasion” during the Spanish song.

As for Britain, tonight was the first time we heard the song. We thought it f@£king sucked!!! We deserved to come last to be honest.

My favourite for the night was Bosnia (gotta love a guitar based song), Yuko kinda like Greece.

However, at the end of day, when Europe is bloody skint and Germany seems to be the ‘least skint’ country of the lot everyone was bound to suck up to them and vote for them ;)

Worrying

This just scares the hell out of me!

“We as a nation were intended by God to be a light set on a hill to serve as a beacon of hope and Christian charity to a lost and dying world.”

OK, step back from the scary lady who said that.

Tucker, signing off

What with Sterling becoming the Great British Peso, stock markets in (mild-)panic, cheer yourself up with this excellent final(?) (mock-)article by Malcolm Tucker. Most amusing :)

Dear Gordon
{snipped out}
It’s time to throw in the towel and call in Dave “Dude, Where’s My Majority?” Cam and let him deal with the horrendous fuck-pie of cock-stew that’s bubbling. Let him do the cuts. Where there is discord, may he bring petrol bombs. Where there is error, may he bring bullshit. Where there is doubt, may he bring Osborne. And where there is despair, may he bring the noise.

Dear Alan/David/Ed

Look, the truth is, a Lib-Lab coalition will be hard to achieve, and will probably lead to infighting and unseemly concessions and politicking that will destroy the left for a generation in this country. But I think that we all feel it will be worth it to stop Osborne from looking pleased even if it’s just for 10 extra minutes.

But it might not have to be that way. I’ve been working the phones. I’ve been chopping the Plaid Cymru rider down from 40 billion and an unlimited supply of green M&Ms to just freezing the Severn bridge toll and more airplay for the Manics. I’ve grabbed Caroline Lucas from skinning up and playing with her Guatemalan rainstick. Basically I’ve rounded up a ragtag army. And this army must now march boldly on and persuade Clegg that together we can seek the electoral reform that we in this great movement of ours have so occasionally believed in.

Where there is ball ache, may we bring lotions. Where there is error, may we bring a statistical margin for it to exist in. Where there is doubt, may they insist on bringing Cable. And where there is despair, may we bring a degree of initial confusion but eventually a somewhat enduring botched job.

Malcolm
