1984

WTF! Looks like my location is there based on the MAC address of my home router! Are you, check at Android Map. Not bad considering I don’t have an Android device. So either someone nearby attempted to use my locked down Wi-Fi with an Android device, or this is old data from when Google went around scanning Wi-Fi from their Google Street View cars.

Google, and Apple too, are starting to annoy me.
More here (Google) and here (Apple).

Japanese with Russian Accents

Hmm, fancy a bit of war-gaming? How about a bit of rewriting Pacific Theatre of WW2 with the Japanese winning. Then Battlestations:Pacific is your game.

The only issue is, why the f**k are the Japanese speaking English in ‘Russian’ accents!!!! I mean, I’d much prefer Japanese with English subs, but if you really must have English speech, then get the accent right!

Software Updates (Geeky posting)

Wooohooo, looks like WordPress has been updated. Version 2.7 is now out, so I’ll be upgrading to that. Hopefully will get my new Theme sorted soon as well.

Also, at long last, the BBC have announced the release of the updated iPlayer software which will allow Apple Mac and Linux users to download content as well as stream it. Hurrraahhh. Means now I don’t have to boot into Windows anyway just to use the Download version of iPlayer (since our internet connection is not that great, it’s not feasible to use the streaming version on the Mac).

Takes me back to GPL

Ahhh, nostalgia. 10 years ago now (well, 10 years this October), when I was a complete petrol head, just left university, and still loved to play games on my PC… Grand Prix Legends arrived!

None of this arcade-y type racing game, this was a proper hard-core simulator, and I would be playing for a good number of years after it came out (it was patched a fair bit with improved grpahics etc etc).

Of course, since then, I’ve been to Japan, gone ‘green’, got married (so less spare time too geek around)…

However the world of simulations moves on, and I saw this recently on YouTube.

How cool is that (well, maybe not the gloves ;) )…
Hmm, what’s the Carbon footprint of doing that for real versus the electricity usage of running it on a computer.
Most of these games are on PC still, however we now have a iMac as well as the MacBookPro. The iMac is Yuko’s machine (and TV machine). But that machine also has a Windows partition on it so we can run some Japanese software that isn’t available on the Mac. Hmmm, Windows partition… Windows car games. :-)
