Whoops

This ain’t so good. It’s not the fact that it’s a junky Anti-Virus system, what’s worrying is that a large number of less-experience computer users will not realise the issues and assume that their machine is fine as it is.

Beer & Rugby

Beer

JapanSugoi.com reported on the introduction of chocolate beer to Japan (by a Japanese brewer). Good stuff. We’ve got some here in the UK too, and Yuko is rather fond of it.
However, it seems the Japanese haven’t stopped there yet. We have Milk Beer too!

Rugby

The 6 Nations starts up this weekend, with Wales playing (favourites for the championship) Ireland on Sunday, in Cardiff. Yuko and myself will probably head down into town to soak up some of the atmosphere and good banter that goes on between the Irish and Welsh fans.
We couldn’t get tickets for this game… but Yuko and I are certainly planning on watching Wales vs Japan in the World Cup game that’s played in Cardiff later this year. I doubt though that Japan will be fielding this guy in the team. Good on the fella though!

GW and PO Update

Japundit.com reported on the rather warmer than normal winter this year in Japan (kinda like the UK). Global Warming? Well, we don’t know 100% that it is, but the odds are pretty high in my humble opinion.
Meanwhile, is Venezuela preparing for Peak Oil? They seems to be learning a lot from the Cubans anyway (who ‘felt Peak Oil’ a long time ago due to political reasons rather than geological ones).

… and finally, otaku go mad again in Japan

This time it’s over the release of Windows Vista.
These launch day events in Japan are nuts.

Over-reaction, or justified?

I used to watch Big Brother in the UK, until about Season 4… that’s when I got annoyed with the selective editing my Channel 4 resulting in the eviction of a housemate, which proved detrimental to the enjoyability of the programme. Sometimes Big Brother does not always know what’s best.

So, until this year I’ve never really watched it. However, during our time in Australia, Yuko started watching the Ozzie version of it, and rather enjoyed it (pretty much because it was kinda new to her… they certainly don’t have Big Brother in Japan).
So, I ended up getting drawn into again, and now we have Series 4 of the UK Celebrity Big Brother.

AND BOY IS IT A CONTROVERSIAL ONE!!!
Here’s some links for you. It all started when there were a series of complaints made to OFCOM about alleged racism against an Indian actress (Shilpa Shetty). This situation of escalated somewhat… links here, here and now here.

It’s a tough one to call. There certainly is a bandwagon starting up, and I suspect a lot of the complaints are now fellow Indian’s living the UK, who haven’t even seen the show.

Today, things started to get worse… here, here, here.

Also, is this just an over-reaction by the Liberal Left?
Me, what do I think. Hmm, normally I have a distaste for PC attitudes, and nothing overly racist has been said in my opinion.
But, being in Japan for a number of years has certainly made me aware of the situation where you have some people who may not do something obviously racists, but are certainly motivated by racist attitudes.
The bullying THAT is going on seems (and can’t be proved) to have racial motivations (but those motivations are not being shown, hence it’s all subjective.)
In Jade’s case, I think it’s a matter of ignorance, stupidty and jealousness of Shipa. However, I do wonder about Danielle’s and Jacks own thoughts. Danielle did manage to let out a “She should just f*** of home”. Maybe a comment just to leave the house??? Not sure about that.

So called special relationship

Hmmm, interesting to see that Blair is respected by the US Government… NOT!

More phones

Looks like Japan has some funky new phones

And finally

What the hell was MS thinking when it produced this advert for Windows 386 (wow, that’s a long time ago, good old early 1990’s technology).

Microsoft-China U-Turn

When the Chinese leader visited the US back in April this year, he met Bill Gates. I seem to remember there were lots of things being said about further investment in China etc etc. Well, are Microsoft having a change of heart???
